The study is grounded in empirical research techniques conducted during interviews in community centres, and uses both the Mini-Mental State Exam and Roger Boshier?s Educational Participation Scale to shed light on the specific motivations that older adults in community-based learning environments have. Other variables explored in the proposed research include the influence of socio-economic status, gender, and race on participation in informal learning after age 65.
